European Walnut
Durable and with a good ability to withstand deformations over time.
It appears that this tree was imported into Europe by Greek colonists from Asia Minor during the Bronze Age, and its spread, from the Roman Empire to the Middle Ages, is due to the nutritional importance of the nuts, a source of important nutrients but also substances used in natural medicine. In ancient times, this tree was associated with the figure of Jupiter, and nuts were thrown in wedding processions, as confetti is today. Widely spread in the countryside as a tree associated with the vine, also because it is believed to keep harmful insects at bay.
Used for centuries in furniture production, as well as for interiors and luxury car dashboards, it is durable, easy to work with, and has a pronounced ability to resist deformation over time. It has a characteristic brown color, with streaks tending towards black, that convey a sense of warmth and familiarity.
