Pear Wood
Hard and dense wood, suitable for turning. Furniture made of this wood is a highly appreciated rarity.

The Wild Pear, unlike the common pear, does not produce edible fruit, although the two plants are obviously related. During prehistory, wild pears were still considered an important food resource, as evidenced by remains found in stilt house villages in Switzerland. The ancient Greeks associated the pear tree with Hera, wife of Zeus, while in Christianity this tree represents Mary’s love for the Son.
Pear wood is a hard and very dense material, with a reddish color that has been used for molds since the Middle Ages and for rulers and drafting squares up until the 20th century. It is also used to make flutes and sculptures, as it is very suitable for turning. Furniture made from pear wood is a rare commodity highly prized by connoisseurs and collectors.
