The olive tree from which this splendid table takes shape was born in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and most likely witnessed the Italian Risorgimento. It was the year 1820, and on the Calabrian coasts, from which the tree originates, the first Carbonari movements were emerging, laying the foundations for what would become the embryo of modern Italy in March 1861. We know these things because the boards that make up the table show the classic cracks due to the proximity of the sea and the influences of its breezes. This majestic tree was felled for safety reasons; from its fruits, a fragrant and lively extra virgin olive oil was extracted, and its rarity lies precisely in the height of the trunk, a characteristic that makes this artifact imposing yet sinuous, unique, precious, and beyond standard due to its nearly 4 meters in length. The olive tree is an evergreen tree that under the right conditions can become millennia-old and reach almost 20 meters. A fundamental plant in the history of Mediterranean civilization and beyond, we find it in Greek and Roman mythology, in the Old Testament, and it is at the same time a symbol of peace and strength: its intertwined branches crowned the heads of the victors of the ancient Olympic games.
